We Hoops to End Hunger for Jack
It is time for the Third Annual Hoops to End Hunger for Jack March Madness event to benefit the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research. This event consists of participants throughout New England completing March Madness brackets while donating funds for critical research in Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS). The event originated in honor of Jack and has raised more than $30,000. We hope to raise $30,000 in 2017!
John, Nikol, Madelyn, Lucy, and of course, Jack, thank you so much for your support. Your friendship and kindness has meant so much to our family! We know that together we can make this event a huge success and continue to raise money for a cure for the hunger. Thank you!
PWS is the most common cause of genetic obesity and affects approximately 1 in 15,000 births. Children with PWS suffer from feeding difficulties in infancy, delayed speech and physical milestones, short stature, scoliosis, sleep disturbances, behavioral challenges and cognitive delays. The defining symptom of PWS however, is hyperphagia, or, an insatiable appetite. Children with PWS feel hungry all the time, regardless of how much they eat. They also suffer from a slow metabolism and must be kept on a very strict diet to avoid life threatening weight gain. Currently, there are few treatments and no cure for Prader-Willi Syndrome. Events like Hoops to End Hunger for Jack help raise critical funds to support research for this challenging disorder.
