One SMALL Step, Running for Lillian Page
When we received Lillian's diagnosis at 6 weeks old, we instantly knew we would do anything in our power to give her a bright future full of opportunities, happiness, and good health. We immediately started researching PWS and communicating with other parents to see what we could do to make our dreams for her a reality. The more we read about FPWR and the research they do, the more we wanted to support them. FPWR isn't just an organization, it's a community of parents, family members, friends, and doctors who are committed to finding a way to curb our children's appetite so they can live FULL lives.
Why run a half marathon? I'm not a runner. I've never enjoyed running. But I want to set an example for my daughter by developing healthy habits through exercise and eating right. When I reach the point in running when I feel like I can't possibly keep going, I'm reminded of my daughter. I'm reminded of the countless times she was in therapy learning to lift her head. Learning to lift her arms. Learning to use her hands. Learning to stand. Learning to walk. I'm reminded of the words of encouragement we would enthusiastically cheer, telling her "You can do it!" "Just one more step!" "You're almost there!" "Good job!" "I'm so proud of you!"
I imagine if she could speak, she would be saying the same thing to me. So I take one more step. One small step. And then another, and another. I can't imagine ever stopping, or ever giving up.
All proceeds from the One SMALL Step walks and Running for Lillian go to fund the Prader-Willi Syndrome Research Plan jointly created by FPWR and PWSAUSA. Learn more about PWS and this event at http://www.fpwr.org/. Please join me and donate now!
